Blog

When writing a blog entry, you must pay attention to your audience. Remember that you write a blog to inform, entertain, discuss so that your readers can read it. It is not a private text type.

  • Use first-person.
  • The register can be semi-formal or informal.
  • Normally use present or past tense and time connectives; such as before, after, next, just then, shortly, last, eventually, firstly, secondly, and thirdly, etc.
  • Make sure your sentences are complete and well structured.
  • Use linking words correctly, such as also, moreover, further/furthermore, another, also, in conclusion, to summarise, etc.
  • Your tone can be informal.
  • It could be a narrative-driven blog that focuses on something you have already experienced, such as a sporting event, a wedding, a concert, etc.
  • Engage your reader with interesting details, provocative information, or an invitation to comment.
  • Include a particular point of view and a reflection.
  • Use conventions such as a thesis, structured paragraph with topic sentences related to the thesis, and a final thought or conclusion. A thesis-driven blog can be much more informative or opinionated.
  • Your opinions, reflections, and feeling should be conveyed.
  • Audience: Anyone interested in the topic or who shares your ideas or interests.
  • Context: The intention to discuss the selected topic.
  • Purpose: To inform, entertain, narrate, or even inspire.
