Email

It is a personal, sometimes professional correspondence done via the Internet. Generally, for Paper 1 evaluation, you will be asked to write an email about an experience. Your audience is the person who may receive the email, yet this can be written formally or informally.

  • Use first-person.
  • The register can be informal, semi-formal, or formal.
  • Grammatical structures should be appropriate to the content.
  • Make sure your sentences are complete and well structured.
  • Your tone can be informal or formal – it depends on your audience and purpose.
  • Include an appropriate opening salutation such as; Dear friend, Good day, miss Rivera, etc.
  • Include an appropriate closing salutation such as; Best regards, Kindly, etc.
  • Your style must be friendly or polite. Adopt a lively, engaging style.
  • Maintain a clear sense of address to a specific person (your audience).
  • Engage your audience by being concrete, but include enough details.
  • Focus on a particular situation. Pick a starting and an ending point.
  • Body paragraphs containing your comments and advice.
  • Your message should be credible.
  • “Idiomatic” language is acceptable; in fact, good use of idiomatic expressions will be rewarded.
  • Proofread your email!
  • Audience: This will generally be an informal text, so your audience could be a friend or a person you know.
  • Context: The situation you decided to address.
  • Purpose: To inform or express concerns.
