Essay
The essay is an essential communication tool, especially in school. A good essay demonstrates that you can communicate your ideas clearly, and persuade an audience that your opinions are logical and trustworthy. Essays can be formal, and you must use the third person, but they can also be personal (informal) with the first-person narrative.
- The register must be formal.
- Grammatical structures should be appropriate to the content.
- Make sure your sentences are complete and well structured.
- Your tone should be semi-formal or formal.
- Your essay must address a specific topic.
- Use sophisticated language according to your topic.
- Use sequenced connectors.
- Write clear topic sentences, support sentences, and closing sentences.
- Divide your essay into an opening paragraph, body paragraph(s), ending paragraph.
- Each paragraph must focus on a single supporting point that supports your thesis statement.
- Sort your ideas into a logical order and choose examples to support your ideas.
- Remember, essays are generally written in the third person.
- Each paragraph must contain at least five complete sentences and a maximum of ten.
- It is suggested to include compound and complex sentences.
- Have a distinct introduction and conclusion. Proofread your text!
- Audience: This will generally be a formal text, yet it must be written in the third person.
- Context: The topic you decided to address.
- Purpose: To communicate your ideas, persuade an audience, or present opinions.
