Paper 1
Paper 1 is an evaluation instrument designed to measure productive skills – writing. This evaluation is externally set and assessed. So, even though students take this evaluation at school, teachers do not mark it as IB official evaluators do.
This evaluation aims at assessing the students’ ability to communicate in writing for various purposes. Hence, students need to demonstrate knowledge of the different text types, register, style, and conceptual understanding of audience, context, purpose, meaning, and variation.
To obtain a successful grade in this assessment, students need to demonstrate that they can communicate clearly and effectively in various contexts and for multiple purposes. Additionally, students need to demonstrate an understanding of interpersonal and intercultural contexts and audiences. For this, students should practice identifying, organizing, and presenting ideas on a range of topics.
